COMMUNITY HERITAGE - AL-HARA ALFOQA AS A CASE STUDY
Our evening lecture series continues. We are pleased to welcome Dr.-Ing. Claudia Bührig (Berlin), who is going to speak about "Community Heritage - Alhara Alfoqa as a Caste Study".
The German Archaeological Institute's 40-year commitment to the ancient site of Gadara and the >Upper Village< of Al-Hara Foqa in present-day Umm Qays has been characterised by a close exchange with local and international partners in the fields of archaeology, cultural preservation and capacity building. The focus is on the exchange and transfer of knowledge and practical skills at all levels of society.
Since 2011, the DAI has been working with local institutions and citizens in and around Umm Qays (Jordan) on a number of initiatives in the field of heritage conservation and training programmes for children. This was also at the request of an active group of local people.
The paper will focus on the experiences of local communities in preserving and communicating their cultural and natural heritage. Al-Hara Foqa will be used as an example to illustrate the outcomes, experiences and complexities of community engagement with heritage. (Türkçe özet)
The hybrid event will be held in English. For physical participation, please register in advance by 15:00 on the day of the lecture.
