What do I need to do once my application has been accepted?
Once a manuscript has been accepted, the entire publication process is the responsibility of the editorial team. In many cases, the scientific editing is done by the staff themselves; in others, the manuscripts are edited by external editors, but in either case, every step is taken in close consultation with the authors.
Series
At the beginning of the editorial process, editors usually need the following information:
- A proposal for the cover image (please note that separate usage rights may need to be obtained for this)
- Promotional text: Text of about 1,800 characters that serves as a promotional text for the publisher and is printed on the back of most volumes; We will need this text also in English. Publishers usually require 5 keywords and brief biographies of the authors.
- Suggestions for reviews: Authors may normally select a maximum of 15 reviewing organisations to which their manuscripts will be sent for review. A list of initial suggestions is provided by the Head Editorial Office.
As a general rule, the author is provided with a maximum of 5 free copies. In the case of multiple authors, individual arrangements will be made with the editors.
Provided the appropriate use rights have been given, authors will receive a screen-optimised PDF of the final preress version approved for publication by the DAI.
After consultation, the DAI may send a limited number of copies (usually no more than 5) to institutions who provided images, antiquities authorities, cooperation partners, etc. for reference purposes. This does not include obbligatory copies for dissertations.
The necessary contracts between the author and the DAI are also concluded at this stage.
Contracts
The DAI concludes a publication agreement with authors for all journal articles and serial publications. This gives the DAI the right to publish the article in the relevant publication. As the DAI also makes its publications available on the Internet, issues regarding online publication are also covered in the contract. In addition, authors must ensure that they hold all rights of use or have obtained them from the owners. This applies in particular to images, drawings and reproductions and must also extend to online use. In the case of journal articles, the number of offprints and the availability of digital PDF offprints are also regulated in the publication agreement, if this is provided for. In the case of publications in series, the number of free copies is specified (usually a max of 5) and the discount conditions for personal purchase (usually around 30%) are agreed upon.
Series and Journals
Once the manuscript has been typeset, authors receive a pagination version (usually in PDF format) and, for series, a version of the cover for quality control and final approval. The contact person at all stages of the production process is the relevant editorial office.
Print and Digital Edition
After publication of the work, the publisher will automatically send out all agreed free copies, institutional copies and review copies.
Academic social networks
If you want to draw attention to your publication on an academic network (Academia, ResearchGate, etc.), you can upload the cover and front matter of the digital edition with a link to the downloadable PDF on iDAI.publications.
