Research Program of the German Archaeological Institute
The basis for the development of research plans and formats for collaborative research at the DAI is the Directorate's position paper "Potentials and Perspectives of Research at the German Archaeological Institute" (German Text). The development of research questions and strategies then takes place in the departments and commissions. The resulting visions are discussed by the respective scientific advisory boards of the departments and commissions and voted on by the central directorate.
The general part of the research plan is published here. Individual projects are also described and budgeted by the Advisory Boards and the Central Directorate. In 2021, the Research Plan 2021-2025 will provide an important basis for a further paper on exchange and collaborative research formats.
Since the development of cross-cutting research clusters began in 2005/06, a large number of topics and network formats have been developed within the DAI and with national and international institutions. The TransArea Network Africa (TANA), founded in 2014, is one of these, as are the projects in Sudan, which are jointly supported by several departments. New concepts and visions for networked research at the DAI will be published after discussion and approval by the Central Directorate at its meeting in 2021.
