Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is the supervisory board of the German Archaeological Institute. Its composition in terms of subject matter reflects the diversity of the institute's research as well as the profile of its eleven departments and commissions. It is composed of thirteen members representing archaeological disciplines and related subject matters from universities, museums, and other scientific institutions. The DAI's Executive Committee furthermore comprises the Head of the Department of Culture and Communication of the German Federal Foreign Office as well as the Representative of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), both represented respectively by a seat and a vote in the committee's decision-making processes.
Together with the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee forms the General Assembly and develops the institute's principal scientific concepts for its activities and research. Taking into account the recommendations from the DAI departments' scientific advisory boards, commissions, and the Board of Directors, the volunteering members of the Executive Committee advise and convene on the institute's scientific projects and publications as well as on the occupation of managerial positions at the headquarters, departments, and commissions. They discuss the reports submitted by the Board of Directors, appoint evaluation officers, and sanction the recommendations forwarded by the latter.
The Executive Committee ensures compliance with the recommendations by the German Research Foundation (DFG) on maintaining good scientific practice, as recognised by the DAI as a member of the DFG.
