The Rome Department's first-rate cooperation and excellent relationship with the city of Rome repeatedly becomes evident at special events. In May 2021, for instance, its first director, Prof. Ortwin Dally, handed over digital copies on the history of the Capitoline in a solemn ceremony to the then mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi. These indeed consisted of historical documents from the political archive of the German Federal Foreign Office that go back to the archives of the former Prussian representation to the Vatican and the embassy of the former German Empire to the Kingdom of Italy. After the conferral of the digital copies and an additional representative selection of plans of the southern sector of the Capitoline, the Palazzo Caffarelli and the Casa Lelli, as well as a folder with prints of the same, the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Italy, Viktor Elbling, and Prof. Ortwin Dally each received a medal from Virginia Raggi, the mayor of Rome between 2016 and 2021, a medal the city of Rome had minted on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Rome as capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
