Damascus Branch Photo Library
The photo library of the DAI's Damascus Branch and Research Unit in Amman holds around 45,000 negatives and slides from DAI research projects and other important ruins in Syria and Jordan, which were documented as part of photo surveys and field research. In addition, the photo library contains analogue image archives by Klaus Stefan Freyberger, Hanspeter Hanisch, Dorothée Sack and Michael Meinecke, among others. Around 40,000 images from this collection have been digitised and provided with metadata. The majority can be accessed via the Arachne image database in connection with the Syrian Heritage Archive Project (SHAP). Unfortunately, the analogue archive in Damascus has not been freely accessible since 2011.
